More Information

A total of 24 existing, planned, and potential station areas and other transit nodes have been identified along the South corridor, in addition to the four existing stations serving downtown Seattle. The station areas include major employment centers, such as downtown Tacoma, residential neighborhoods, such as Beacon Hill, and major institutions, such as the Sea-Tac International Airport and higher education campuses. To date, planning for transit-oriented communities in the corridor has ranged from recently completed neighborhood and subarea plans around several existing stations to long-range visioning exercises along corridor segments, to preliminary light rail alignment studies.

The South Corridor Task Force will address key issues for the corridor, to include:

  • Promoting equitable participation and outcomes in many of the most diverse and economically challenged communities in the region
  • Overcoming historical market barriers to development
  • Achieving station area growth in ways that preserve community assets for current and future residents
  • Linking a range of housing choices with centers that offer living wage employment opportunities
