SEATTLE The Puget Sound Regional Council is calling for nominations for the 9th annual VISION 2020 Awards to recognize inspiring projects, plans, and programs that increase the vitality of the central Puget Sound region.
The Regional Council honors businesses, local governments, and non-profit organizations who do creative work to focus new housing and jobs in urban areas, provide transportation access and mobility, protect our natural environment, and improve the quality of life in the central Puget Sound region.Nominations will be accepted until December 31, 2003. A committee composed of nine elected officials serving on the Regional Council's Executive and Policy Boards, and two regional experts will select award winners.
The VISION 2020 Awards will be presented at a banquet in March 2004 attended by mayors and councilmembers representing more than 80 cities, counties and transportation agencies throughout the region.
Eligible projects, plans, and programs help implement VISION 2020, the region's growth management and transportation strategy, and have shown significant progress within the last 12 months. Anyone can make a nomination.

The Regional Council develops policies and coordinates decisions about regional growth and transportation planning in King, Pierce, Snohomish and Kitsap counties. The Council is composed of over 80 county, city, port, transit, tribal and state agencies serving the region. It coordinates the distribution of about $100 million in Federal Highway Administration and Federal Transportation Administration funds each year.
