Metropolitan Transportation System: Roadways and Ferries
April 2003

Streets and highways are the backbone of the central Puget Sound transportation system. Similarly, Washington State Ferries play a vital role in connecting the region’s communities. Both provide basic transportation for thousands of commuters each day, and contribute to the economic vitality of both the state and the communities they serve.

The Roadways and Ferries report concentrates on examining direct, observed measures of the performance of the Roadway and Ferry components of the region’s Metropolitan Transportation System, focusing on facility and route speeds, travel times, reliability, and on-time performance. Demographic and facility use data are also reported to provide a broader context for the performance information. Facility use data includes vehicle volumes, person volumes, average speeds, and transit ridership on the primary facility within the particular corridor.

2003 & 2004 Roadways and Ferry Data
An update to Metropolitan Transportation System: Roadways and Ferries (2003) is now available. The 2003 & 2004 data is contained in an Excel worksheet, which can be compared to the 2001 data available in the full report and the 2002 spreadsheet update in 2004.

The Regional Council plans to update these data tables annually, and to periodically update the full Roadways and Ferries report. Please note that in some instances, 2003 & 2004 data was not available. We hope to provide this data in future updates.
