Metropolitan Transportation System: Regional Transit
July 2005

The Regional Transit report monitors transit system performance. It establishes a range of measures that will be evaluated over time to determine the region’s progress toward achieving the policy objectives identified for public transit in Destination 2030.

Regionwide measures of performance include the supply of services and facilities (e.g., service hours and park-and-ride capacity), ridership levels and efficiency of transit operations. For 10 major transit corridors in the central Puget Sound region, baseline performance data includes:

  • Travel times between regional centers
  • HOV vs. general-purpose travel time comparisons
  • Transit ridership and headways
  • Park-and-ride capacity and utilization

As data is collected and performance measured, more analysis will be done to determine how well the region is moving toward achieving regional transit objectives. The report will be updated on a regular basis as new data becomes available.
