Mary McCumber Executive Director

On June 27, 2002, the Executive Board of the Puget Sound Regional Council approved a memorandum of agreement with the Central Puget Sound Economic Development District.

The memorandum of agreement describes how the Regional Council and the Central Puget Sound Economic Development District (EDD) will better coordinate and support economic planning for the region. Under the agreement, the two agencies will share staff, offices, equipment, data, and meeting space, allowing for more efficient use of public resources and better coordination of planning efforts. This renewable agreement will be effective July 1 and is set to run for one year.

For more information, please contact Mark Gulbranson at (206) 464-7524 or Robin Rock at (206) 464-7091.

The Executive Board heard a briefing on Referendum 51 projects in Destination 2030, the central Puget Sound region's 30-year transportation plan.

The Legislature identified 67 projects in the region that will receive $4.6 billion if Referendum 51 passes in November. All of these projects are part of Destination 2030, either as candidate or approved projects.

Over the next few months, the Regional Council will be updating the Destination 2030 Action Strategy, which sets priority projects for the first decade of the 30-year plan. The Action Strategy will ultimately incorporate the results of the November 5th election and its impact in addressing the region's transportation system improvements.

For more information, please contact Kevin Murphy at (206) 464-6411.

The Executive Board heard an overview of the conference "Imagining our Transportation Future: The Role of Value Pricing and Innovative Financing in Shaping Our Region," held May 29 in Bellevue.

The conference was one in a series sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration and the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute at the University of Minnesota. Over 200 people attended the conference and listened to thought-provoking speakers who offered insights on existing value pricing projects worldwide and how value pricing could work in the central Puget Sound region.

For more information, please contact Matthew Kitchen at (206) 464-6196.

The Executive Board heard a briefing on the Regional Bicycle and Pedestrian Implementation Strategy.

The strategy is designed to help local governments and agencies in the region plan, design, and implement bicycle and pedestrian projects and programs. It will also guide development and coordination of the Regional Council's annual bicycle and pedestrian work program. The strategy was developed by the Regional Council's Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee, which includes representatives from Regional Council members and non-profit bicycle and pedestrian interest groups.
