Start your search by using a unique or distinctive word or phrase in your request. Put your phrase in quotes or choose the "exact phrase" option.
Be sure your search terms are spelled correctly.
If you use multiple words, choose the "all words" or "exact phrase" option. Avoid asking questions or using extraneous words.
Use quotation marks with the "any word" option to find words which must appear adjacent to each other. Otherwise the words may appear separately, anywhere, and in any order, within the document. Note: Quotes are ignored if the "all words" or "exact phrase" options are selected.
Try synonyms or similar words if your original search isn't successful.
Capitalize proper nouns. Lowercase words will match any case. For example, typing search will return all documents containing the words search, Search, and SEARCH, but typing Search will only find those using the word Search.
Use a plus or minus sign with the "any word" option. The plus sign tells the search engine that a certain word or phrase is required, and a minus sign indicates that a word or phrase must be absent. Note: A phrase must be contained within quotation marks. Leave no spaces between the plus or minus sign and the term. Note: Plus and minus are ignored if the "all words" or "exact phrase" buttons are selected.
Field searches allow you to create searches for words or phrases that appear in a specific part of a document. The "any word" option must be selected. A field search can be performed on body text (body), 0title text (title), alternate text (alternate text), meta description (description), meta key words (keywords) or URL (url). Note: Phrases must be contained within quotation marks.
Wildcard searches can expand the number of matches for a particular request. The * character is used as the wildcard character. For instance, searching for wh* will find the words what, why, when, whether, and any other word that starts with wh. Searching for *her* will find the words here, whether, together, gathering, and any other word that contains her anywhere in the word. Wildcards may be combined with the standard plus (+) and minus (-) modifiers, quotes for phrases, as well as the field search specifiers. |
