Sumner-Pacific Manufacturing Industrial Center Wins VISION 2040 Award

SEATTLE – Sumner and Pacific have won 2019 VISION 2040 Awards from the Puget Sound Regional Council for their joint Manufacturing Industrial Center Subarea Plan. The awards recognize innovative projects and programs that help ensure a sustainable future as the region grows.

"The Sumner-Pacific Manufacturing Industrial Center Subarea plan sets the stage for job growth in Pierce and South King County,” said Josh Brown, Executive Director of PSRC. "The plan dedicates over 2,100 acres to manufacturing and industrial land uses within easy access of the ports of Seattle and Tacoma."

The award will be presented at the Sumner City Council Meeting on August 19, 2019

Sumner and Pacific prepared a subarea plan to support the continued growth of industrial and manufacturing jobs in the area. The plan also supports enhancement of the White River floodplain to reduce flooding impacts and restore natural habitat. It is home to the REI Distribution Center, Amazon, Brooks Sports, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, and Pacific Northwest Baking Company (known for baking millions of sesame seed buns for McDonald’s each year).

VISION 2040 is the region's growth management, economic, and transportation strategy, designed to meet the needs of the 5 million people expected to be living in the region in 2040.
