The Regional Economic Strategy (RES) is a strategic blueprint for regional collaboration in King, Kitsap, Pierce and Snohomish counties.
The RES serves as the region’s Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS). A CEDS is designed to build capacity and guide the economic prosperity and resiliency of a region, building off other regional planning efforts. Implementation of the CEDS is accomplished by a broad set of regional stakeholders, highlighting important ongoing economic development programs and initiatives, as well as identifying new opportunities for implementation. Adoption of a regional CEDS enables local jurisdictions and eligible organizations to qualify for funding under U.S. Economic Development Administration programs.
The Central Puget Sound Economic Development District Board of Directors adopted the current strategy in December 2021, which covers the period from 2022-2026. In addition, the board identified a set of focus areas (PDF) for board and staff efforts that is updated at the end of each year to support the implementation of the strategy.
Strategy Update
In March 2025, PSRC kicked off the process of updating the RES, which will be finalized and adopted in 2026. PSRC has developed an Online Engagement Hub to gather information over the summer from stakeholders on key challenges and opportunities that the region faces and ways that the region can make progress.
