Economic recovery efforts underway

EDD board plans update to Regional Economic Strategy

Economic recovery will be the main topic of discussion at next week's Economic Development District meeting. The board will discuss two recovery efforts underway, one helmed by the Washington State Department of Commerce and the other by Greater Seattle Partners.

The Washington State Department of Commerce is working to develop programs and funding to support economic recovery in the state in response to COVID-19. The department’s efforts include assistance for small businesses as well as supporting industries most negatively impacted by COVID-19. In addition, Commerce is working to develop state policy and funding recommendations and to secure federal funding, including the CARES Act, to aid in state recovery efforts.

Greater Seattle Partners is coordinating a Regional Recovery Taskforce to develop a long-term economic recovery plan. The recovery plan is intended to be implemented by the complement of private, public, and non-profit partners. It will focus on driving inclusion and equity throughout the process as well as target aspirational, innovative and transformative strategies unique to the region. A draft of the recovery plan is expected to be released in 2020.

In addition, the board will discuss the scope, timeline, and focus for the update to Regional Economic Strategy, including use of CARES Act funding recently awarded to the EDD.
