Growth board continuing work on Centers Framework

Board may release draft for public comment

The Growth Management Policy Board will discuss a draft Centers Framework proposal this week and may release a draft for public comment.

In September, the growth board directed PSRC staff to prepare a full draft proposal for further discussion and action.

The Centers Framework update aims to clearly define the types of central places within the region—both larger and smaller—that are the focus of growth, planning, and investment.

The framework will establish consistent designation criteria and other expectations for regional and countywide centers.

The draft proposal:

  • Builds from the existing requirements and has higher growth expectations for larger centers
  • Sets criteria for manufacturing/industrial centers that emphasize retention of industrial land and employment
  • Includes basic criteria for countywide forums to designate countywide centers
  • Provides recommendations to recognize the four major military installations in VISION 2050

The Growth Management Policy Board will meet Thursday, October 5, 10 a.m. – 12 noon, at PSRC. Watch the meeting or view the agenda.
