Providing opportunities for all

Equity is a central theme in VISION 2050 draft plan

VISION 2050 is about creating a bright future for all people as the region grows.

The recent economic boom has been great for some, but not everyone has benefited equally. Skyrocketing housing costs are making it hard for residents to stay in their neighborhoods. Some communities are well-served with transportation, good schools, parks and other services, while others lack access to important building blocks of success.

VISION 2050 includes policies and actions to address these disparities, particularly among communities of color, people with low incomes, and historically underserved communities.

The draft plan works to ensure that all people have access to the resources and opportunities to improve their quality of life.

Recognizing that growth will put pressure on communities, VISION 2050 also seeks to reduce the risks of displacement of lower-income residents and businesses through elevating social and racial equity in regional planning and encouraging integration of equity in local plans.

Building on current equity work in VISION 2050, PSRC will continue to work with its members and stakeholders to better understand how regional planning can produce more equitable outcomes for all of the region’s residents.

PSRC has developed the Opportunity Mapping Tool, which assesses the conditions in neighborhoods across the region. The tool can provide information on existing disparities in the region that may be exacerbated as a result of policy and planning decisions. It can help inform planning and siting decisions, and help communities consider access to opportunity as they plan for the future.
