Region added 59,700 jobs in 2017

362,800 new jobs since 2010

The region’s strong economy continued to generate significant job growth in 2017, adding 59,700 jobs.

The number of jobs is slightly more than the job gain of 59,400 in 2016, and marks the eighth consecutive year of job growth for the region.

Regionwide, jobs grew 21 percent since 2010, or 3 percent in the past year. The strongest job growth was in the Seattle metro area, which includes King and Snohomish counties.

Locally focused job sectors accounted for the bulk of the jobs added, increasing to accommodate a growing regional population.

These sectors include retail, health care, accommodations & food services, and construction. The retail sector in the region, however, also includes jobs in the rapidly growing Internet retailer industry.

The information, professional, scientific, and technical sector grew strongly over the period, reflecting the region’s thriving IT economy.
