SEATTLE - The Puget Sound Regional Council's (PSRC) General Assembly has elected King County Council Chair Claudia Balducci as President and Poulsbo Mayor Becky Erickson as Vice President of the regional planning agency.

“From Forward Thrust to Sound Transit’s regional light rail system, central Puget Sound has an impressive track record of doing big things that improve the lives of the people who live here,” Council Chair Balducci said.

“Now in our 30th year as an organization,  PSRC will again be the place where the region comes together to address the opportunities and challenges of our next 30 years: making housing more affordable and accessible to all, expanding  opportunity through better transportation choices and promoting an economy that provides good jobs for more people in more places.  We will undertake our work with an overarching focus on improving racial equity and access for those who have historically benefited least in our dynamic region.”

Both leaders have a long history of public service with the PSRC. Councilmember Balducci served as PSRC’s Vice President from 2019 to 2021 and previously served as the Transportation Policy Board Chair (as a Bellevue Councilmember) from 2010 to 2015. Mayor Erickson became a member of the Transportation Policy Board in 2014, became its Vice Chair in 2016 and has been serving as Chair since 2019.

The General Assembly also adopted the agency's supplemental budget and work program for fiscal year 2022.

The PSRC General Assembly includes elected representation from King, Kitsap, Pierce, and Snohomish counties, and more than 100 cities and towns, state agencies, transit agencies, ports, and Tribal governments.

PSRC develops policies and coordinates decisions about regional growth, economic development and transportation planning for a growing region.
