BELLEVUE-- The City of Bellevue has won a VISION 2050 Award from the Puget Sound Regional Council for its community engagement during the development of its 2044 Comprehensive Plan.
The VISION 2050 Awards celebrate progress to enhance the region’s communities and natural environment while advancing equity and opportunity for all. The awards recognize innovative work in the region to create a better future for central Puget Sound.
"Bellevue has grown in both size and diversity since our last update to the Comprehensive Plan,” said Mayor Lynne Robinson. “Our robust community engagement efforts for Bellevue 2044 resulted in a plan that truly represents the current community’s vision for the future of our city. This effort will continue to enhance the trust in our city government and strengthen the bonds among Bellevue residents. I am proud of the efforts of staff, community partners, advisory board members and all the neighbors who showed up to make their voices heard."
Bellevue is one of the most diverse cities in the region, with nearly half of its population born outside of the United States. Recognizing the unique population, the city set out to develop a Comprehensive Plan that could be reflective of the entire community.
“Bellevue was successful using a combination of traditional outreach methods with creative new approaches, achieving a large and meaningful response rate,” says Josh Brown, PSRC’s Executive Director. “The city’s work with community liaisons built strong partnerships that can continue to provide insights into the city’s work long into the future. The extensive use of translation options resulted in a greater diversity of participants. Bellevue has a lot to be proud of with this work.”
The award will be presented at the Bellevue City Council meeting on June 11.
VISION 2050 is the region’s plan for growth. By 2050, the region's population will reach 5.8 million people. The region’s cities, counties, Tribes, ports, agencies, businesses, and communities have worked together to develop VISION 2050 to prepare for this growth and serve as a guide for sustaining a healthy environment, thriving communities and a strong economy.
