How well is the region protecting and enhancing its open spaces? PSRC has just published a new report to share findings on the status of our resource lands.
The region’s open spaces represent a significant economic asset, providing services conservatively estimated at $11.4 to $25.2 billion each year. These services include clean air and water, energy, food, building products, flood protection, and recreation.
The 2024 report reviews information on tree canopy cover, urban open space, regional trails, farmland, working forests, aquatic systems and naturals lands to assess how the region’s open spaces are evolving.
VISION 2050, the region’s long-term plan for managing growth, recognizes the importance of open space and includes policies and actions to protect and restore open space lands and develop equitable access to parks and regional trails. This report examines how the region is progressing on VISION 2050’s open space goals.
