Seattle Wins VISION 2050 Award for Overlook Walk in Waterfront Park

SEATTLE City of Seattle receives VISION 2050 Award from the Puget Sound Regional Council for Seattle’s Overlook Walk in Waterfront Park.

Overlook Walk, part of the larger Waterfront Seattle portfolio, is a bold and visionary project that redefines how people move between downtown Seattle and the waterfront. Built where the Alaskan Way Viaduct once stood, this iconic structure connects Pike Place Market and Elliott Bay through an accessible pathway. Since opening in October 2024, Overlook Walk has already become a recognizable symbol of Seattle’s identity and civic pride.

Spanning 60,000 square feet of new elevated park space and 100 feet of vertical elevation, Overlook Walk offers breathtaking, 360-degree views of Seattle’s skyline, Elliott Bay, and Mount Rainier. The path integrates gathering spaces, public seating, children's play areas and art installations.

This project combines elegant urban design with complex engineering innovation. With its hourglass-shaped, post-tensioned bridge structure spanning 115 feet, Overlook Walk functions both as a park and a transportation link.
