Update: Applications for recreation planning now open

The Planning for Recreation Access program was recently created by the Washington State Legislature to encourage recreation planning in communities with insufficient access to outdoor recreation. The grants are intended to support collaboration between local governments, community-based organizations, and residents, as well as planning and community engagement.

Applications are open October 14 to November 14. There will be a webinar on October 20 from 1-2:30 p.m. and grants are expected to be awarded in December.

VISION 2050, the region’s plan for growth, calls for communities to provide parks, trails, and other forms open space within walking distance of urban residents. It also calls for the prioritization of historically underserved communities for open space improvements and investments. Outdoor recreation grants help fill park gaps identified in the Regional Open Space Conservation Plan.

The process and application have been simplified to make the program easy to use. In addition, support is available to help applicants.
