New Tribal Safety Analysis

PSRC has developed a Tribal Safety Analysis as a supplement to the Regional Safety Action Plan (2025) to gain a comprehensive understanding of safety issues and challenges specific to the Tribal areas within the central Puget Sound region.

The Tribal Safety Analysis includes a state of the practice review, analysis of crash trends in Tribal areas, including contributing factors leading to crashes, and recommended mitigation strategies for Tribal areas. Profiles were developed for each individual tribe in the central Puget Sound region:

Muckleshoot Indian Tribe
Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe
Puyallup Tribe of Indians
Snoqualmie Indian Tribe
Stillaguamish Tribe of Indians
Suquamish Tribe
Tulalip Tribes

The federal government currently recognizes nine Tribal nations in the central Puget Sound region. The Nisqually Indian Tribe and Sauk-Suiattle Indian Tribe were not included, as a majority of their roads are outside of the four-county region and will be addressed by other planning organizations.

In addition to the report, PSRC also released a High-Crash Location (HCL) dashboard. The dashboard allows users to explore and better understand crash hotspots within Tribal boundaries.
