Join the 2026 Summer Planning Academy

The Puget Sound Regional Council has developed a summer program for teens who want to learn about urban planning and share ideas about making the Puget Sound region a better place to live.

The Summer Planning Academy (SPA) is a free leadership development initiative that encourages high school students to think about how planning can impact their communities and help residents lead better lives.

Topics include an introduction to planning, transportation planning, environmental planning, housing, and equity. Students will be taught by PSRC staff members and will have an opportunity to hear from industry professionals and elected officials within the region.

Upon successful completion, participants receive a $500 scholarship and a certificate they can include in college, vocational school, or job applications.

The dates of commitment are:

  • Session 1: July 29, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Session 2: July 31, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Session 3: August 5, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Session 4: August 7, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • (Optional) Graduation Session: August 11, 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

High school students from King, Kitsap, Pierce and Snohomish counties are welcome to apply. Students under 18 years of age will need permission from a parent or guardian to participate. The application period closes at 5 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2026.
