PSRC Distributing Additional Transit Funding Ahead of World Cup

On March 3, 2026, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) announced $8.4 million for the greater Seattle region for public transportation agencies to support increased activities related to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. PSRC has been charged with determining how these funds will be distributed to agencies.

PSRC’s Executive Board advanced the recommended funding distributions for public transportation agencies in the greater Seattle region for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The required information will be submitted to FTA and the transit agencies will begin the process for reimbursement of the funds for these activities supporting World Cup events.

PSRC worked with the Transit Operators Committee to finalize the recommended funding for each agency, taking into account the estimated cost of the activities being undertaken by each agency in support of World Cup events, the standard distribution percentages for PSRC's FTA formula funds, and a minimum floor of $200,000 (not to exceed estimated costs).
The funds are intended to support planning, operational and capital needs, including extending service hours and frequency, providing shuttle services and wayfinding, increasing security and customer service staffing, additional maintenance, communications and marketing campaigns and other additional staffing needs. The following table identifies the amounts recommended to each agency.
