SEATTLE - Kitsap Transit has won 2018 VISION 2040 Awards from the Puget Sound Regional Council for two projects, the Passenger Only Ferry Program and the North Viking Transit Center and Base. The awards recognize innovative projects and programs that help ensure a sustainable future as the region grows.

"Kitsap Transit has done the hard work to pilot and develop multi-county passenger only ferries," said Josh Brown, Executive Director of PSRC, "they've overcome some technical hardships to have an excellent performance record and growth in ridership on the Bremerton route. We look forward to watching this service grow over the next few years."

The Passenger Only Ferry Program began with high speed service connecting downtown Bremerton with downtown Seattle. Service will be expanded to Kingston and Southworth.

"The new transit center and base were built with sustainability in mind," said Josh Brown, Executive Director of PSRC, "bioretention cells treat stormwater runoff, mature tree stands and Dogfish Creek were protected, and the site connects to a transit-oriented development."

The North Viking Transit Center and Base offers 265 park and ride stalls and charging stations, an ADA accessible environment, and a seamless transfer spot for North Kitsap routes.

The awards will be presented to Kitsap Transit on September 4, 2018.
