The State of Transportation in Washington

On February 14, the Transportation Policy Board will hear a report from Secretary of Transportation Roger Millar on the “State of Transportation.”

Secretary Millar will discuss the role of WSDOT and the opportunities and challenges the state and region need to be prepared for moving forward.

Highlights include the growing gap between the state’s level of spending and the need for preservation and maintenance of the transportation system.

Secretary Millar will describe how WSDOT is using Practical Solutions to manage these challenges and work with partners and communities to create a shared vision of transportation priorities.

The board will also welcome Amy Scarton, Assistant Secretary and head of the Washington State Ferries system, for a briefing on the Washington State Ferries Long-Range Plan.

Washington State Ferries recently completed its 2040 Long-Range Plan, which was submitted to the Legislature in early January. The plan recommends actions and investments for Washignton State Ferries to pursue over the next 20 years, including service and terminal improvements.

Other items on the board’s agenda include recommendations on:

  • Adding two projects to the 2019-2022 Transportation Improvement Program
  • Certification of the Lakewood Regional Growth Center Subarea Plan
  • Full Certification of the Puyallup Comprehensive Plan

The  meeting will be February 14, 9:30-11:30 a.m., at PSRC. You can view the full agenda here or watch the meeting video
