Spotlight on Transit

VISION 2050 and the Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) call for providing and encouraging alternatives to driving alone to support a growing region and economy.

Creating and maintaining safe and equitable access to the growing transit system is an important theme of the draft plan.

The draft RTP includes investment in high-capacity transit to expand the system to include 116 miles of light rail with 80+ stations in three counties, 36 bus rapid transit routes, two expanded commuter rail routes (89 miles and 15 stations), ten passenger-only ferry routes, and three streetcar routes, while maintaining the existing transit system.

Access to transit becomes increasingly important as the region continues to expand its regular transit network into one that is more convenient, flexible, and safe, while providing mobility options throughout the day.
